Pre-Season Underway For Accies Rugby

Visit to Ardmay Outdoor Centre

The players have been working hard at training, with good numbers and some really special days.

We started off the serious side of pre-season training with a comprehensive workout and practice run-out with the Ayrshire Bulls squad before their East vs West match in July. This was done under the watchful eye of Ryan, Ruaridh and Warriors Skills and Assistant Coach, Pete Horne.

This was followed up with a brilliant weekend at the Ardmay Outdoor centre where 25 players and 2 coaches did some seriously hard work and ultimately enjoyed a really positive experience.

Players built their own rafts in teams and then had to row them across the loch and carry them on an 8 mile run – no easy task! This was a very positive and worthwhile team building exercise.

Fixtures News

The first outing of the season was to fulfil an invitation that had been made at the end of last season to participate in the inaugural 7’s tournament to celebrate the formation of the new club in Dundee, Dundee City RFC. The good news is our squad of 10 players won the cup – great result.

The players will travel to Ayrshire for the first of our pre-season matches which will be against Marr RFC, a tough introduction, but just what the boys are needing.

The weekend of the 20th the boys have been invited to travel to Bristol for a 3 header series against two great Bristol sides, 22 players have been selected and will fly down on Friday night, play on Saturday and return on Sunday. Meanwhile, the remaining members of the squad will play the visiting team from St Mary’s College in Ireland, whose 1st XV are playing Cartha QP. A big weekend for Accies with 47 players already committed.

On the final weekend we will field a team away at Lenzie, with the remainder of the squad preparing for our first league fixtures of the season. The 1’s against Newton Stewart and the 2’s against Marr, both at New Anniesland.

We are planning a special lunch for the game and so it would be great if you could join the fun.
