Rector Matthew Pearce: An Introduction

It has been wonderful these past few weeks to re-engage in-person with our alumni community. It has been a long wait and I have much missed the opportunity to speak with former pupils at reunions and other Academical engagements. In reality, I had barely got started as Rector before the pandemic restricted opportunities for you to re-visit your school. So it goes without saying that it is an aspect of my tenure as Rector that I am very much looking forward to experiencing in full colour!

As well as meeting with as many of you as possible in person, over the months ahead I intend to share with you some of my journey to the Academy and some of the important life lessons I have benefitted from along the way. I consider it a privilege and honour to be the 10th Rector of this great school – your school. As a school community we have forged a clear vision for the future, with some exciting projects well underway.

I intend to share this vision with you within this very column. I also look forward to sharing some of my own background as a leader, in the hope that it will offer some insight into what has shaped my own views on education, and how we can best serve young people here at The Academy and beyond.

For now, I hope you like what you see on your new platform – Academy Made. I firmly believe that this will have a hugely positive influence on how you as former pupils, can engage with the school as well as each other, as we usher in an exciting new era for the Academical community.

Serva fidem!

Matthew
