On 21 September, theatre fans will have a very unique opportunity to enjoy a performance and also meet the talented producer of the Back to the Future – The Musical at the Adelphi Theatre on London’s Strand.

The show’s producer, Colin Ingram (Class of 1987) is renowned globally as one of the most visionary and talented musical producers. Colin has kindly agreed to host a group of former pupils and families for an intimate meet and greet and Q&A after the show.

Colin commented: “I’m really looking forward to welcoming the guests from The Glasgow Academical Club later this month. It’s the perfect opportunity for theatre enthusiasts to gain an insight into a West End musical production and meet our talented cast and I always enjoy connecting with people from the wider TGA community.”

As an Olivier award winning producer, Colin has gone on to create an illustrious career spanning 27 years and is one of the world’s most highly respected producers having worked alongside some of the the industry’s leading directors, producers and creatives.

His most recent production, Back to the Future-The Musical, which has been masterminded by Colin for over nine years, has won multiple awards including the Olivier Awards, What’s on Stage Awards and Broadwayworld.com.  And now you have  a chance to snap up an exclusive ticket and hear from the man himself as well as meet some of the talented cast.

Colin is also global producer of critically acclaimed Ghost the Musical, which has been staged in 22 countries in 14 languages in over 30 countries and was also the executive producer of multi award winning Billy Elliot the Musical and lead producer on Breakfast at Tiffany’s on Broadway and its UK tours.

In 2011 he co-founded InTheatre Productions and produced Grease the Musical starring Jason Donovan.

Before becoming an independent producer Colin worked with Cameron Mackintosh general managing productions including Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, Oklahoma and The Witches of Eastwick. He has also had roles at Disney theatrical productions, Madison Square Gardens Entertainment and has also held the role of non-executive director of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

During his time at The Glasgow Academy, he had a taste of musical drama and has fond memories of working on early school productions alongside his then English teacher Malcolm McNaught. His career didn’t begin in musical theatre. After finishing school, he first studied Law at The University of Edinburgh before moving on to train in Chartered Accountancy at Price Waterhouse Cooper. During this time, his early passion for theatre was rekindled as he immersed himself in Edinburgh’s vibrant arts scene and festival productions. This newfound enthusiasm set him on the path to a distinguished career in theatre, which has now spanned several decades. Realising that accountancy wasn’t his true calling, he decided to pursue a full-time career in the theatre.

Colin added: “I will always value my training in law and accountancy and my studies both at school and university provided me with fantastic experience, but my passions always lay with the arts and pursuing this as career full time was very natural for me and has allowed me follow my dream of producing large scale musical theatre productions that ultimately provides audiences with pure escapism and joy.”

Colin is a proud supporter of the school and The Glasgow Academical Club and has most recently generously sponsored the The Colin Ingram Prize for Drama at our annual prize giving which he hopes will encourage more pupils to dedicate their studies to their passion for drama and musical theatre and consider a career in the arts.
