Glasgow Accies RFC 13 – 7 Dumfries Saints RFC

On what can only be described as a dreich and difficult day for rugby, Accies and a very committed Dumfries side took to the field for what was inevitably going to be a tough encounter. Unfortunately, I could not be present, but from all reports this was indeed a hard-fought encounter. The brief summery is that Accies scored a well-constructed try under the posts, which was converted, followed by a penalty, so Accies were leading 10 – 0.  Dumfries have always been a strong side and never give up and a late interception try by the visitors saw the score back to 10 – 7 and a few, if not many, nervous supporters in the stand. Thankfully, another penalty secured victory for Accies. Final score 13 – 7.

Meanwhile, the 2’s were also at home and after losing last week to Ayr they turned the result around and came out winners 17 – 15, so two wins! Not a day for Accies own brand of free-flowing rugby but we must be pleased with two great results. The 1st XV sit top of National 2 and the 2nd XV sit 4th in a very tough West Reserve League 1. This was a true squad performance and there is no doubt that whether you are playing in the 1’s or 2’s, there is a real desire to play for one another.

The report from our Chair, Niall, was that these were two very hard-fought encounters between teams giving all they could, so two victories are a great credit to our squad system. Niall was also greatly encouraged by the fact that New Anniesland was busy and the clubhouse was, in his own words, ‘jumping’. This club is not just about winning matches – as important as that is – it is also about what goes on within the whole of New Anniesland. The involvement of our supporters and what happens off the pitch, are equally important in the development of our club and it’s ethos.
