The end of a very successful school cricket season has coincided with some excellent recent results for the Accies 1st XI and ongoing successes for the club’s 2nd and 3rd XIs. The school team were the ‘best in the west’: undefeated in local matches; winners of The Academy hosted Super 6s competition; and dominant in their final game of the year – a comfortable win over the High School of Glasgow.
Well done to captain Robert Worthington and thanks to coaches Mr Hariharan and master in charge Mr Wilson for all they have done for the team!
The Accies 1st XI haven’t had an easy start to the season but are picking up now with back-to-back wins against Renfrew and Irvine. The next game is against Hillhead who are currently bottom of the table so there is a great chance to move further up the table.
The 2nd XI continues to play well and win matches and are currently 3rd in the table, ready to push for promotion. The 3rd XI – who only came into existence this season – are safely mid-table also with opportunities to get up towards the promotion places.
Accies cricket successes over the years are often based on the size and strength of the junior section.
You can see this every Sunday when we have great numbers of young cricketers at training and also on Mondays and Fridays when our junior teams play.
The evidence of our junior successes can be seen in the Western Warriors U17 representative team that played recently with five Accies – two of them Academy pupils – and club player Sameer Zia who is one of the Warriors coaches.
Well done to all involved in junior coaching at Accies and to Colin Dawson and George Paton who have contributed so much to the junior section over the years!
