Scottish Rugby Awards Retrospective Caps To Ex Accies Players

This week, Scottish Rugby announced that they would be honouring more than 50 players who represented their country in matches which previously did not carry Test cap status.

President Colin Rigby commented: “Awarding a cap retrospectively may seem purely symbolic or belated by some people, but I know from conversations with some of those players and their families what this decision will mean to them and that granting cap status will be cherished.”

Naturally, we were delighted to discover three former Accies players on that list, as well as a former staff member at The Academy.

Captain W B Biggart of Glasgow Accies is awarded a cap for competing in the following:

1943 Services Rugby: England 24 Scotland 19, 10 April, Leicester

Captain H G Uren of Glasgow Accies is awarded a cap for competing in the following:

1944 Services Rugby: England 27 Scotland 15, 18 March, Leicester

Captain J R Henderson of Glasgow Accies is awarded a cap for competing in the following:

1945 Services Rugby: England 11 Scotland 18, 24 February, Leicester

Former of Head of P.E at The Glasgow Academy, Stewart McAslan, is awarded a cap for competing in the following:

1988 Zimbabwe 10 Scotland XV 31, 21 May, Bulawayo

As a wider school community we could not be more thrilled for these men and their families, and echo the sentiments of Colin Rigby that these caps will be truly cherished.
